Presentation by Sarina Gibbon, APIA and Jackie Adams, Office of the Privacy Commissioner
As we move into this compliance phase, rental sector agencies must be aware of their obligations and responsibilities. There are now no excuses for over-collection and unauthorised use of personal information and there will be consequences for non-compliance.
The Privacy Commissioner John Edwards
After a nearly year-long review of the rental sector, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner has released updated guidance for the rental sector and launched a new monitoring programme including an anonymous tip line for tenants to raise privacy concerns.
As the sector comes under increasing oversight, we’ve put together this information session to help landlords and property managers understand the new guidance and share our insights into the new monitoring programme.
Session topics
- Summary of new privacy guidance for landlords and tenants highlighting likely areas of compliance deficiency;
- Best practice suggestions for everyday privacy concerns (including those connected with COVID and vaccination);
- How to avoid inadvertently breaching privacy rules and attract an investigation;
- Insights into the OPC’s new monitoring programme including how it will conduct random reviews/audits, mystery shopper inquiries and the anonymous tip line for tenants.
Speaker
Sarina is the general manager of the APIA. Jackie is the OPC compliance and enforcement manager.
