Keynote presentation: The politics of property investing by Brooke ven Velden

The politics of property are increasingly (and onerously) consequential on investors. Having a behind-the-scenes understanding of how major political parties perceive and tackle topical issues not only help investors plan for the long term but also ignite civic engagement to ensure that our elected officials better represent our interests.

We are very pleased to kick off this series of political presentations with Brooke van Velden of the ACT Party. Brooke will address the big challenges facing our housing market as she sees it, share her insights into the current political landscape and mark out ACT’s policy agenda in the coming years before addressing your questions and feedback.

Session topics
  • ACT Party’s positions on current and topical issues facing investors such as:
    • The Labour x National bipartisan RMA amendment;
    • CCCFA and its impacts on mortgage borrowers (homeowners and investors);
    • Healthy Homes Standards
  • The reality of passing laws under urgency, the pattern of legislative behaviour this government engages in and its lasting impact on New Zealand;
  • How ACT plans the navigate the current political landscape and whether the change in National leadership has any effects on ACT’s base and positions.
Speaker

In addition to being the deputy leader of the ACT Party, Brooke is also the party’s spokesperson for housing, health, foreign affairs and trade.

Bonus presentation: CCCFA case study by Kris Pedersen

Changes to the Credit Contractors and Consumer Finance Act are starting to bite. Mortgage borrowers (homeowners and investors alike) are finding themselves having to jump through new impossible hoops to secure reasonable funding. Seasoned investor and broker Kris Pedersen shares a recent case example of how the CCCFA operates in real life and how the borrower navigated the new impediments to secure funding.
